When things get hard, ask yourself: “Is this a case where it’s better to be gritty or quitty?”

Gritty = finding a way through

Quitty = getting out before things get worse

Note: Contrary to popular belief, there actually are many situations in life where it’s better to be quitty than gritty!

If current you is struggling with this question, imagine that future you is looking back on this moment. What will future you wish you had done?

Looking through the eyes of future you helps guard against “I felt like quitting today, but actually want to push through” as well “I felt like I should stay, but really should’ve left sooner.”

In your Project Quartz journal, write down the situation you’re struggling with. Make note of what current you wants to do. Then take a step back and see what future you would want. After considering both answers, assign the situation a label: is it “gritty” and worthy of finding a way through? Or is it “quitty” and best to get out before things get worse?

Now that you know which one it is, how do you want to proceed?
