Remote Control

Imagine that your mind is a TV and you hold the remote.

As an experiment, try tuning into a variety of different channels:

  • The Hearing Channel (or other sensory channels)

  • The Gratitude Channel (or other emotional channels)

  • The Past Channel (or Future Channel or Present Channel)

  • The Work Channel (or Parent Channel, or Bookworm Channel, or Dog Lover Channel)

While not always running in the foreground, each of these channels (and more!) are always available for you to tune in to with your personal remote.

In your Project Quartz journal, take a moment to reflect on the following questions:

  • Which channels of your mind are on the most?

  • Which channels do you enjoy the most?

  • Is there a specific enjoyable channel that’s easy for you to turn to when you’re not enjoying the current channel that’s playing?

    • Of course, it’s important to note that if another channel is playing loudly—e.g., the Anger Channel—we can’t necessarily tune it out entirely, but perhaps we can picture-in-picture another channel next to it to gain a broader perspective.

Over the next few days, play around with your remote control, and see what channels you want to tune in to when.

If/when inspired, reflect on this experience in your Project Quartz journal.
