Movie Mis-Takes

On a movie set, it’s assumed that each scene will require multiple takes. So when an actor makes a mistake, it’s simply a mis-take. Things are re-set and everyone tries again.

Re-conceptualize your own mistakes as movie mis-takes. See yourself as an actor on the set of life, and forgive yourself for not getting it perfect the first time.

The next time you make a mistake, simply reset and try again. (If you can’t exactly try again, try again with something similar in the near future.)

Alternatively, if you’re drawn to this tool because you recently made a mistake, think about how you can re-set and try again.

If/when inspired, reflect on your “time on set” (i.e., your experience using Movie Mis-takes) in your Project Quartz journal.

Variation: BlooperS / Ad Libs

Sometimes, movie mis-takes end up producing a scene that’s even better than the one that was scripted, making it to the blooper reel, or even into the final cut of the movie as ad libs.

Do any of your Movie Mis-Takes qualify as bloopers (that you can look back on and have a good laugh) or ad libs (that change the direction of your life in a positive way)?
