Oceanic Feeling

Reflect on a time when you simultaneously felt small but large: a tiny part of the universe yet totally at one with it. Perhaps it was while stargazing, looking out at the sea, or staring up at redwood trees. This feeling has a name: oceanic feeling.

In your Project Quartz journal, write down the ways that you have experienced this oceanic feeling, and how that experience was for you.

If so inspired, make a plan to experience this feeling more frequently (e.g., go stargazing more).

The term “oceanic feeling” was coined by French dramatist Romain Rolland in a letter to Austrian psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud.
