One In, One Out
For everything you add, subtract something else.
For example, if you buy a new shirt, see if you can remove an old one from your closet that you no longer wear. Or if you add a new weekly activity, see if you can drop something else from your calendar to avoid become over-scheduled.
While strict application of the One In, One Out rule is bound to feel draconian, it’s a useful guideline to consider, when it feels right to you.

If/when you’re inspired, feel free to reflect on this process in your Project Quartz journal.
Variation: One In, Two Out
If your goal is to reduce the number of things in your closet or on your schedule, note that that the One In, One Out rule won’t actually do this: it will simply keep the number of things from growing. In order to reduce things, consider the One In, Two Out rule, in which you subtract two things for every one you add.
