Pay Yourself First

In the world of finance, “pay yourself first” means setting aside a part of your paycheck in a savings or investment account before paying for or buying anything else.

While this is a useful tool as is, it can also be applied to other aspects of your life. For example:

  • Engage in a self-care practice (e.g., stretching, meditating, listening to a favorite song) before diving into work emails

  • Getting your workout in before you start your daily chores

  • Blocking off time on your calendar for the things that are important to you before allowing other commitments to fill it up

In your Project Quartz journal, choose an asset (e.g. time or money), and brainstorm some ways you can “pay yourself first.” Then pick one, and put it into practice.
